Engineering plan
A quarter's engineering plan as a Gantt chart, reconciled against tracker milestones and team capacity.
Recreated on dummy data. Every name, figure and date in the recreation is invented.
Problem: The quarter’s plan lived across Asana, Linear and spreadsheets, so every update meant reconciling three places by hand.
What I built:
- An interactive plan that accounts for the engineering people available and constraints such as the Black Friday code freeze.
- A Gantt chart by work stream, colored by side, with milestones, launch and freeze dates, and a line for today.
- A reconciliation view that checks plan dates against tracker milestones and each person’s weekly capacity.
- One place to update the plan, connected to Linear, Notion and the team’s other workflow tools.
How I worked with AI: I recreated it here with Claude Code in VS Code, from my own description, on dummy data.
Decisions and trade-offs:
- I planned capacity per person and per week, not per team. The cost is more inputs to keep current.
